Often overlooked, industrial box gutters can be the cause of serious leaks and structural damage, creating financial loss through stock damage and hazards to personnel working below.
Preventative maintenance is the key, but many gutters left unattended for long periods need to be replaced. Gutters fail for a number of reasons, the main reason being that they "rust out" and holes appear, but the steel in many gutters can also be affected by chemicals and pollutants released into the environment from manufacturing facilities.
Some replacement gutters are placed inside the original failed gutter, but this solves one problem and creates others. This type of repair usually means that the new gutter is smaller than the original, therefore reducing its capacity and this can cause further leaks, by over flowing.
A chemical reaction can also be set up, which causes this new gutter to rust in a short period of time. Often roofs are required to be disassembled to some degree, in order to allow the new box gutter to be placed in its final position, an operation that incurs additional time, cost and business disruption.
The scope of works can get more complex when hazardous roofing materials such as asbestos are in place and special measures are required to be taken to comply with safety standards.
To alleviate many aspects of the complexity of gutter renewal, the box gutter joiner was developed by a master roof plumber in Melbourne. Metro Industrial Roof Restoration are proud to be associated with this product, as an installer and distributor in NSW.

Although the main advantage of the product is illustrated in box gutter maintenance/replacement, other applications can demonstrate installation efficiencies by using the product in the following applications:
The Box Gutter Joiner conforms to the Plumbing Code of Australia (PCA) Part A.2. In particular A2.1 (e) and (h) of the PCA which deals with new or innovative products and material or products used in stormwater installations.
The Box Gutter Joiner has been assessed by the Plumbing Industry Commission (PIC) technical department. They found it to be of sound and excellent design.
The rolled form top and bottom sections are Zincalume coated and guaranteed against corrosion for 25 years. Materials are chemically compatible with the Zincalume sheets of the gutter.
'The Box-gutter-joiner is used to join the two halves of the box gutter to be installed. With a top and bottom fixing plate, silicone seal, and wing nut fasteners, the two 'L' shaped halves of the box gutter can be easily fitted into place without having to tamper with existing roofs. Unlike the standard 'C' shape box gutter which requires a lot of time and effort to fit into place.'
